Meet Captain Mel
Captain Melissa (Mel) Leone has a lifelong background working and traveling outdoors. Captain Mel followed her passion for nature and joined the National Park Service where she worked at some of our country’s most iconic national parks including Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, Glacier National Park in Montana and Acadia National Park in Maine.
Captain Mel discovered her love for fishing after moving to Daytona Beach in 2015. She soon began working as First Mate aboard a fishing boat with Captain Corey Simmons in Daytona Beach. With her experience working in the great outdoors, her enthusiasm for introducing people to nature and her knowledge of fishing, Melissa soon became a professional Florida fishing guide. She acquired her U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license in 2019 and immediately partnered with Captain Corey to begin Daytona Beach Fishing Charters.
Melissa may serve as Captain or First Mate on your Daytona Beach Fishing Charter.
As Captain, she will take you and your guests to her favorite fishing spots for exciting reef fishing off the coast of Daytona Beach or scenic inshore fishing along the Halifax River.
As First Mate, Melissa is there to help make your fishing adventure an easier and a more enjoyable experience. She is there to assist you with everything from helping with the line when reeling in a big one to filling in as onboard photographer and videographer to help record the fun!
Captain Mel has a US Coast Guard issued 25 ton Master Captain’s license with towing endorsement.
Captain Mel is CPR Certified!
CAPTAIN MEL’S BOAT
Captain Mel’s boat is a 24 foot Center Console, Deep-V Hull fishing boat. The center console design allows for plenty of open walk around space. The Deep-V hull design allows us to venture safely offshore for deep sea fishing. The boat also has a covered T-Top for shade from the Florida sun. The boat is powered by a 250 HP Suzuki outboard engine and is equipped with state-of the-art electronics including GPS, VHF Radio and FishFinder. Also on board is all the top quality fishing gear needed for up to 6 guest anglers.

Captain Mel specializes in private boat charters including eco-tours, weddings at sea and bachelorette parties. Melissa is also a licensed wedding celebrant and can conduct Weddings at Sea.
