Day Trips to Saint Augustine
Day Trips to Saint Augustine are a beautiful journey to America’s Oldest City! We’ll cruise the inland passage along the Intracoastal Waterway, which follows two of Florida’s most beautiful coastal rivers, the Halifax River and the Matanzas River. These slow moving, scenic rivers run parallel to the Atlantic coast line. The path of these coastal rivers, parallel to the sea, is a Florida phenomenon. Elsewhere, they would be described as lagoons or sounds but they are indeed rivers fed by quiet, bayou like creeks and extensive wetlands that drain the adjoining land.
Along the way, we’ll cruise past beautiful water front homes and miles of pristine, mangrove lined shoreline bordered by national forests, state parks and aquatic preserves. We’ll be passing through some of Florida’s richest aquatic wildlife habitats, home to dolphins, manatees, alligators and countless exotic waterbirds and birds of prey.
In historic Saint Augustine, you can stroll through narrow, 16th century streets lined with architectural treasures built by the Spanish two centuries before our country was founded. You’ll discover quaint shops and inviting little restaurants at every turn. You’ll also want to visit some of St Augustine’s most famous tourist attractions including Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum and of course Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park.
Hard to believe we can do this all in one day but it only takes about two and a half hours to travel the Intracoastal Waterway from Daytona Beach to Saint Augustine. And there’s so much beautiful scenery and wildlife to see along the way, you’ll arrive in St Augustine before you know it.
